Sayandeep is an economist specializing in behavioral, experimental, and applied microeconomics. His research uses controlled experiments and applied microeconomic theory to study social preferences and social norms, focusing on how context shapes decisions when economic incentives alone do not explain observed behavior. He designs transparent experimental environments, both in the laboratory and online, that isolate specific behavioral mechanisms and allow clear interpretation of choices. His research areas are charitable giving, honesty, fairness under inequality, and social norms. He is affiliated with the Teton Behavioral and Economic Science Lab and is a member of the Economic Science Association. Before entering academia, he worked as a credit risk analyst, using large-scale commercial and consumer credit history data to develop credit scorecards for clients in India, the UAE, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
