Dr. Athira Vinod

Athira is an Assistant Professor of Economics at UWA Chennai whose research interests lie at the intersection of Development Economics and Education Economics. Her current research examines the impact of affirmative action policies, private schooling, and climate change on educational outcomes in the context of India. She is an applied microeconomist who primarily works with quasi-experimental methods for causal inference. Prior to joining UWA, Athira was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), where she worked on the latest round of the India Human Development Survey (IHDS-3). She previously worked as a Teaching Associate at the School of Economics, University of Nottingham. Athira is passionate about undertaking research that seeks to understand and address socioeconomic inequalities, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
