UniAccess: Academic Inclusion and Accessibility Support

The University of Western Australia logo featuring a black swan and an open book with 'Seek Wisdom' motto.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment where all students can participate fully in academic and campus life. UniAccess supports students living with disability, chronic medical conditions, mental health conditions, temporary injuries, learning differences, and other circumstances that may affect their studies. We also provide support for students who have caregiving responsibilities.

How we can support you

Our Student Wellbeing Advisors can work with you to identify reasonable adjustments and individual support strategies that promote your academic success and wellbeing.

Support may include:

  • consultation regarding disability, health, and accessibility needs
  • individual learning and assessment adjustments
  • alternative examination arrangements, where appropriate
  • accessible learning materials and digital resources
  • advice regarding assistive technology and software
  • support in accessing campus facilities and services
  • liaison with academic staff to facilitate reasonable adjustments
  • guidance for students managing temporary, ongoing, or fluctuating health conditions
  • support for students who have caregiving responsibilities
  • information for prospective students and families.

Registering for accessibility support

Students who would like to access accommodations or support should contact a Student Wellbeing Advisor as early as possible.

If you are a current or prospective UWA India student, email uniaccess@india.uwa.edu.au to make an appointment.

Before your UniAccess appointment
Before your first appointment, please provide documentation from a health professional (e.g. general practitioner, psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychiatrist, etc.). Your documentation should outline:
  • the nature of your disability, medical condition, or learning difficulty
  • how the condition impacts your studies
  • any recommended supports or adjustments
Please ensure your documentation meets the medical documentation requirements (PDF 544 KB). Your health professional can fill out the Health Professional’s Report form (PDF 177 KB) or provide an existing report.
All information will be handled confidentially and in accordance with University privacy requirements.
Accessibility support and academic adjustments
Following a consultation, you may be eligible to receive an Academic Adjustment Plan (AAP) that outlines approved reasonable adjustments.

Depending on your circumstances, adjustments may include:
  • additional time for examinations or assessments
  • rest breaks during examinations
  • extensions to assessment deadlines
  • alternative formats for learning materials
  • flexibility relating to attendance, where appropriate
  • other reasonable accommodations based on your individual circumstances
