UWA India Receives Final Approval for Mumbai Campus 

Milestone brings UWA closer to welcoming its first cohort of students in Mumbai, with HCLTech’s AI program and Orientation set to begin ahead of the September intake

The University of Western Australia (UWA) has received the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Letter of Approval for its Mumbai campus, marking an important milestone ahead of the campus opening on 18 September 2026. The approval paves the way for UWA to welcome its first cohort of students in Mumbai, offering students the opportunity to pursue a globally recognised Australian university education while staying connected to home and the opportunities of India.

Dr Diane Smith-Gander AO, Chancellor, The University of Western Australia, said: “The opening of UWA Mumbai is an important milestone for the University and for our relationship with India. Most importantly, it is about creating new opportunities for students, giving them access to a globally recognised UWA education while they remain connected to the opportunities, communities and aspirations of India. We are delighted to be at this point in our journey and look forward to welcoming our first students to Mumbai.”

At UWA India’s sprawling 70,000 sq. ft. Ahead of the start of classes, AI Jumpstart program – 30 hours certification with HCLTech - and Orientation will introduce students to the UWA learning environment, help them connect with their peers and equip them with the confidence and skills to begin university life.
