UWA India Welcomes Its First Students as Mumbai Campus Opens Its Doors

A landmark moment in India–Western Australia education ties, as the Global Top 100 university begins postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in Andheri East

 UWA India  celebrated the official opening of its Mumbai campus on Friday 18 September 2026, a milestone moment for The University of Western Australia's presence in the country and for the broader education partnership between Maharashtra and Western Australia.

The campus was inaugurated by The Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, and The Hon. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, joined by UWA leadership — marking the start of teaching for UWA India's first cohort of students this month.

The Mumbai campus is backed by UWA's commitment of approximately AUD 80 million toward its wholly owned Indian campuses, reflecting a long-term investment in connecting Indian students and industry with a Global Top 100, Group of Eight university. Mumbai is the first of two UWA India campuses to open, with Chennai following in October 2026.

The Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, said: "The opening of UWA's Mumbai campus marks a significant milestone in Western Australia's growing relationship with India and Maharashtra. Western Australia has maintained a presence in Mumbai for 30 years, that relationship is deeply rooted in people, knowledge, skills, technology and shared opportunity. UWA's Mumbai campus is a tangible expression of that relationship, bringing the expertise and global outlook of a Western Australian university to Maharashtra while creating new opportunities for students, businesses and institutions in both India and Western Australia."

The Hon. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said: "Maharashtra is proud to welcome The University of Western Australia to Mumbai. This campus reinforces Mumbai's position as a global centre for education, business and innovation and gives our young people access to a globally recognised education. Based in Andheri East, UWA India's Mumbai campus gives students access to a globally recognised UWA degree without leaving the country.

Mumbai is a natural home for UWA - a global centre of business, innovation and ambition. We want to bring a world-class UWA education closer to Indian students, while building stronger connections between Maharashtra and Western Australia."

What UWA India is offering in Mumbai 

The Mumbai campus offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across business, technology and STEM — including Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Business Management, and an MBA (commencing November 2026). The 12-month accelerated MBA covers strategy, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, data-driven decision-making and international management, and every program blends academic depth with industry-relevant, practical learning.

Located close to Mumbai's corporate, financial and technology corridor — and well connected to the airport and Metro — the campus features modern, technology-enabled classrooms, innovation and project spaces, and student collaboration hubs. Students will also get access to internships, mentoring, employer engagement and career coaching as part of their UWA India experience.

Building a bigger bridge between India and Western Australia 

UWA India's Mumbai launch strengthens academic, industry and institutional ties between Maharashtra and Western Australia, building on existing UWA partnerships with Indian universities, businesses and government bodies in areas like technology, AI, cybersecurity and critical minerals. Chennai will follow in October 2026 as UWA India's second campus, deepening the university's footprint and the broader India–WA relationship across education, talent, research and industry.
